Volunteers at Chain Reaction Bike Hub are passionate about creating a bike-safe community for all. We partnered with League of American Bicyclists (LAB) to certify our volunteers as League Cycling Instructors (LCI). LCIs are ambassadors for better biking through their education efforts. We can now provide education for kids and adults to learn how to bicycle safely in the community.
LAB Bicycling Education
Meet Gennaro
Chain Reaction Bike Hub volunteer, Gennaro C. has recently earned his certification as a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) with The League of American Bicyclists (LAB). Gennaro was awarded the LCI Equity Scholarship by LAB that drives equity, diversity, and inclusion towards a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.
Training for Gennaro to become an LCI consisted of a three-day, train-the-trainer curriculum that challenged his skillset as an educator, instilled values that are consistent with LAB, and provided educational materials and resources that allow him to start delivering classes upon completion.
Gennaro is always volunteering his time and talents to our daily bike hub operations, while also serving as a CRBH board member. He is passionate about seeing more people on bicycles and changing how people view biking. He believes bicycling is not just a fun activity for kids, but an efficient, healthy, viable means of transportation for everyone. The opportunity to become certified as an LCI was the perfect fit for Gennaro, so he can offer cycling education that meets the high standards of LAB to the Cedar Rapids/Linn County community.
Gennaro is also very involved in the social media, events planning, and volunteer coordination at Chain Reaction Bike Hub. Gennaro is a fantastic cook and witty friend. He has enjoyed travel all over the world, with a particular love for Spain and their cuisine.
So, what can Gennaro teach now?
Gennaro is now ready to start educating our community on various curriculums, all designed to make the road safer for bikes. LCIs can teach a variety of Smart Cycling classes to children as well as adults, helping them feel more confident and secure about riding. From youth focused classes to Bicycle Friendly Driver curriculum, LCIs can teach people who bike and drive how to safely and legally share the road. Classes can also explore Gennaro’s 50+ years of experience with how to commute on a bike and how to realistically integrate biking in your daily life.
Coming soon, classes by Gennaro will be offered at the Chain Reaction Bike Hub or within the community. He also plans to work with Linn County Worksite Wellness Committee to share information and offer his classes to Linn County worksites. Community groups and organizations can work with Gennaro directly to book classes.
