FTWN Adventure Clothing Swap!
Calling all outdoor FTWN (femme/trans/women/nonbinary) enthusiasts! Chain Reaction is hosting an inaugural FTWN Adventure Clothing Swap cohosted by Fearless Women of Dirt Cedar Rapids! Let’s be sustainable and give items a new life.
We’ll be swapping adventure clothing. Think things that to be active in - workout clothes, cycling or running clothes and shoes, outer wear, those hiking pants that don’t quite fit right, etc.
This is for ‘adventure clothing.’ Yes to work out tops, no to stilettos.
1:1 swap - no money will be exchanged! Example: If you bring 5 items, you’re welcome to take home up to 5 items. We’ll be handing out ‘tickets’ that you exchange for items.
Please bring items in good condition that have lots of life left that someone would be stoked to take home.
Items not claimed will be donated locally. General items will go to Waypoint Women’s Shelter, bike items to Chain Reaction.
This is NOT a bike swap or paid swap. CRBH will host a second annual bike swap in late March (!).
Bring some snacks to share as you like.
This evening is FREE and open to FTWN members of the community.
Any questions, please reach out to us at CRBH.Volunteer@gmail.com
Sorry fellas, this event is limited to femme/trans/women/nb volunteers and participants.
Volunteer Night & Assessment Refresher!
2/3: We’ll start our 2/3 evening with a refresher on bike assessments. We’ve grown our volunteer base and have a bunch of folks assessing bikes - let’s make sure we’re learning from each other. Evan will teach a quick refresher on bike assessments - join in!

Ever wonder how shifting works, or where all those cables in your bike actually go? Join us on Monday, Nov 24, for an FTWN night at the hub for some snacks and hands-on learning by tearing apart.
We’ll open the hub at 5:30pm to share some snacks and catch-up time. Around 6pm, we’ll lead a hands-on slow bike disassembly on some of our salvage bikes - discussing bike anatomy components and function. Step 1 of fixing a bike is knowing what’s what!

Cranksgiving
Join the Cedar Rapids cycling community for Goldfinch Cyclery’s 9th Annual Cranksgiving! Chain Reaction is excited to, once again, be one of this year’s ride stops!
In case you’re not familiar:
Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels with many purposes: part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. It's been held annually in New York City since 1999. Every year, throughout the country, Cranksgiving events help provide thousands of needy families with a wealth of food during the holiday season. For the 9th year running, we're including Cedar Rapids in this national movement!
Pump up your tires, grab your helmet, lights, lock, your navigational skills, and $20-$40* to purchase everything on our grocery list (*depending on how many grocery stops you make).
Registration/check-in starts in the NewBo City Market at 11 am with some caffeinated essentials from our friends, Roasters NewBo. We invite you to support the local flavor and grab some breakfast from one of the many great NewBo Market Shopkeepers.
***Come early for PRE-RIDE YOGA w/ Emily Qual! at 10am***
At check-in you'll sign our waiver in exchange for our 'manifest' with a list of food items to buy from specific grocery stores around town, and time before the official start to strategize your route. At noon we'll roll out and it's up to you to navigate yourself to each grocery store 'checkpoint' to purchase the specific food items on our list. Once you've acquired everything on the list you must deliver the goods to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and make it back down to the NewBo neighborhood for our After Party at the Olympic Southside Theatre from 4-7pm.
***NEW THIS YEAR! :: Bring your own shirt, cloth, kerchief, or other printable material (at least 12"x12") with you the morning of registration, and we'll print the official Cranksgiving CR logo to commemorate the day and memorialize an awesome day spent uplifting the community.
Every receipt you collect from the grocery stops on our manifest earns you a raffle ticket to enter for a chance to take home some RAD prizes from our favorite neighborhood businesses and bike industry friends! *RAFFLE called at 5:30pm**gotta be present!* Beverages available from our friends at Olypmic, Tibbs is making us popcorn, and the good folks from Aromas Pizza and Pupusa will be setup out front all night. YUM!
The Loaves & Fishes is a food pantry is a community resource in partnership with Westminster Presbyterian Church and Christ Episcopal Church. Their guiding principles are to treat everyone with respect and offer as much choice and dignity as possible. Every Tuesday from 2:30 to 5 pm, between 100-200 people come to the pantry for a box of food organized and distributed by volunteers. In turn, that food reaches about 1,500 individuals each month.
Visit the Loaves & Fishes website (https://www.crwpc.org/loaves-and-fishes) for more information about Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry and how you can continue to contribute to this invaluable resource.
